Take a Trip and Enjoy the Sights in the Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona has been one of the most visited tourist destinations since it was officially opened in 1919. Every year almost five million people from all over the world visit the Grand Canyon. And we can see why—Grand Canyon is a majestic, picturesque place, and visiting it is not just enjoyable, but also educational.

The world-famous layers of colorful rocks date back to prehistoric times. It has been said that the Grand Canyon has the most impressive example of erosion in the world. Layers of different geological eras and times have been preserved, revealing fossils and mineral deposits. And indeed looking at the Grand Canyon, one cannot help but marvel at the landscape’s formations.

But sightseeing is not the only thing on the list when visiting the Grand Canyon National Park. For groups, there are hiking trails, and you can go camping. There are free programs led by park rangers, including walks, talks, video slides, exhibits, and others.

There are also the Tusayan Museum, showing how Pueblo Indians 800 years ago lived in the Grand Canyon, and the Yavapai Observation Station which exhibits fossils and other educational information. The Kolb Studio, on the other hand, is a photography exhibit on the Grand Canyon. In addition, there are special events that are scheduled regularly. Some of these events are the Grand Canyon Music Festival, theater productions, and more art exhibits.

But first, how do you get to Grand Canyon?

The easiest way is to go to Phoenix, Arizona first and then drive to the Grand Canyon National Park. The drive takes about four to four and a half hours, depending on the traffic. Take the easiest route to I-17 North, and then from I-17 North go to I-40 West, and then to Highway 64. South Rim of the Grand Canyon is just ahead.

How much is the entrance fee? And are there any additional fees?

If you are bringing a private vehicle with your family or friends, the entrance fee is $25.00 per private vehicle. But if you are entering by foot, bicycle, or motorcycle, it is $12.00 per person. This is for the whole week, and for both the North and South Rim of the park.

On the South Rim you can buy the permit on Cameron Trading Post, Williams Visitor Center, Chevron Travel Stop, IMAX Theater, Canyon Square Inn, Red Feather Inn, and Quality Inn.

There are no additional fees, unless you are going camping or lodging. A backcountry traveler also requires a permit and a fee. All reservations must be made in advance.

When is the best time to go to Grand Canyon?

The Grand Canyon South Rim visitor center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. everyday of the year, but they usually have longer hours when there are lots of visitors. The North Rim visitor center is open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., but only from mid May to October.

The peak season usually runs from April to October. And it can be expected that most people will come during the summer and on winter holiday weekends.
